career advice for student

Anonymous
Hello, I'm a hs student looking for some career advice. I love sports, health, nutrition, working out, and am very good with kids. I'd like to find a career that pays well while doing what I love (I know, doesn't everyone). I'm fairly athletic (boys lacrosse player) and may be able to use it to help me get into college. My dream job would be sports related, but I'm also realistic and know that a professional career in sports is not likely. If I were to go that route, I can think of coaching, scouting, athletic director, and athletic trainer. I took a look at some of the average salaries in these fields, and I'm concerned I could barely support myself. Next best thing seems to be in the health industry; occupational therapy, physical therapy, maybe speech therapy (kid aspect). Lastly, thinking about teaching, but I have a lot of teachers in my family and they all seem kind of down on it these days.

I would love to hear from people that have experience in these fields, or even just some general career advice (i.e. if you could do it all over again, what would you do?). Thanks.

I'm friends with a guy who was a sports PT, and he worked for a college, working with their football and basketball players. Then he went back to school to become a physician's assistant.

You need to keep in mind that your body won't always move like it does now. So you are not going to be a 30 year old play lax. Your body won't be able to perform at that level. How much money do you think you'll need to earn as an adult?

Have you considered being a sports psychologist?

Thanks for the advice. No career in lax anyway (just love playing it and football too), so at best, I can to use it as a means to get into a good school, along with doing well in school of course.

I don't have a salary in mind, but would hope to make a decent living and support a family one day.

No, never considered sports psychology, but will do some research on it now. thx

Agree that any cross-over you can find between sports and medicine is a good start.

There is also sports promotion.

You can always coach in your free time.

Can you explain a little more about sport promotion?

How about sports medicine?

Or if science isn't your thing, maybe sales and marketing related to sports?
