Boy Applicants

Anonymous
There seems to be an inordinate number of boys applying to K this year. Our DC's preschool class is majority boys by a wide margin. We've had two playdates, and there were mostly boys. Anyone else see the same dynamic? Are the boys at a distinct disadvantage for admission? Are all the schools looking to balance gender, or are there any that don't focus on gender balance and admit based on best fit?

The schools do seek to balance gender, yes.

Last year there were too many girls. I guess it all balances out somehow, but if you have a kid of the "wrong" gender your particular year, it's just one more thing you have to try not to think about! (Yes, we had a girl applying for K last year.) Good luck OP and don't stress!
