DC is vegetarian and loves eating out.

None of these places sound very good, just slightly hipster. |
| Vegan is never going to be VERY good, just slightly hipster. Slightly is about as hipster as it gets in DC. |
| Thanks for this! I've been trying to find a good place to try more vegan fare. I'm a vegetarian now but contemplating the move to vegan. |
I have been to all of them except Elizabeth's Gone Raw and the juice bar. Everlasting and Great Sage are AMAZING. I actually am not a big fan of loving hut - love Sunflower, though they have a few nonvegan items (still vegetarian). I am also not hugely impressed by Soupergirl - they are okay in my opinion, but not amazing. Still like Sticky Fingers - heck they did our wedding cake! I wish they would innovate and add menu items though. Sad Java Green and Vegetable Garden are no more! |
Thank. Glad to know we all just read about food and not actually taste it. |
| Has anyone tried Woodland's? I'm not even vegetarian, but I do like some vegan soul food. |
| Woodlands is superb tasting but watch out for the oil. |
Woodlands is my absolute favorite veg spot! I love the steak and cheese and fried chicken sandwiches. Also the lasagna and the mac n cheese, as well as the sweet potatoes. From the cold bar I have loved almost everything: kale salad (I prefer sweet, my husband likes the garlic), spicy tofu, tvp macaroni salad, tofu skins in particular. The desserts are good and the freshly made juices and smoothies are AMAZING. It is delicious. They also just started up a food truck so you can try them that way. |
| Not meant to be snarky, but are there more than seven vegan restaurants in DC? |
| Everlasting Life is awesome. There is a chinese place in Georgetown (right by the bike store by the Key Bridge) where you can get lots of fake meat options. Was Sticky Rice on the list? Sticky Rice has vegan sushi and it is very awesome. |
Yes. http://www.vegdc.com/restaurants.php?type=veg Some of those are vegetarian and not vegan though. Several have closed - Vegetable Garden, Java Green, Cafe Green, Nirvana |
| Not vegetarian, but LOVE Soupergirl! They sell their soups in Whole Foods now. |
|
Try Indian. Often most/all are vegetarian.
Asian foods such as Thai, Korean, Japanese often have vegetarian foods. Only problem comes in if your kid is so strict about vegetarianism that even flavorings and/or condiments have to be vegetarian (like fish sauce). |
|
Generally, I prefer veggie options at "regular" restaurants, although I do sigh with relief and happiness looking at an all veggie menu.
I wish we had the equivalent to Green's and Millennium in San Francisco or Daily Food in LA. |
