where undergrad's get 6 figure starting salaries, almost 50% stock bonuses, random other cash bonuses, and managers that let you vaporize marijuana in your office or cube if it doesn't affect your work output/quality during the day.

and this is at an 100B+ market-cap company....i can't even imagine what a start-up would allow.

OP here; no completely sober. College juniors are finishing up their summer internships and getting their full time offers and I visited my nephew in the middle of the summer and it is crazy what established places (so not a start up without any hr or anything) let you do at work as long as you get your work done.

I wonder if places that have afternoon/evening beers at work on fridays now will let people have a joint or two if they would rather have that than the beer or two.

i already said it is a company with a market cap of 100B..its not hard to find out a list of west coast tech firms with MC's around 100B or higher. No i'm not going to name the company.

I just found it completely crazy....so different from the work culture around here. I'm not saying people out there don't grind or work hard...they do and put in lots of hours.....but in terms of 'etiquette' its almost like anything goes.

Yes, I've heard that the conference room orgies are particularly hard to stomach. That, and the bring your open-marriage-others to work day make me so happy that I live and work here in DC rather than on the West coast.

OP here. I'm sorry to hear that.

A lot of 'young' money wealth there (non-founder, but early employee) is quite lucky. I have two cousins whose lives were set back 5-7 years due to the 2000 bubble/crash, but a family friend happened to join the right start-up in the mid-late 90's and they were able to weather the storm and is now worth close to 9 figures. From an intelligence/credentials/ability stand-point, they were all similar.
