| I saw this field mentioned in another thread, and it looks interesting after some research. Anyone out there working in this field who can provide some practical insight? |
| Not in the field, but I research health careers and informatics is huge, particularly with all medical records being digitized. If you have the skills or the interest, definitely look into it. |
| My husband is a leader in the field (of sorts). what do you want to know? |
| This sounds creepy. |

OP here. I am actually enrolling in a graduate certificate program I found online at a university (a regular university). There are several good online programs with an excellent one at Northwestern University but very expensive. Right now, I'll just see where the graduate certificate takes me.
Yes, I do have a medical background but reluctant to get into heavy programming. I'm not interested in bioinformatics because I prefer not to get into computer science or engineering. If there's anyone out there who is actually working in the field, I would appreciate your insight about what you do, application into different medical areas, etc. |
huh? |
|
OP, do you have a clinical background? I have a masters and 15 years or nursing informatics experience. What questions do you have?
|
NP here. I'm interested also. Could you just tell us what you do? Since this may be new territory for many of us and not knowing exactly what you do, couldn't you just spell it out? |
OP here. I've found a fair enough of information online and will reach out to members of professional informatic organizations. Almost like pulling teeth to get folks to elaborate on their knowledge base!

PP nurse informatics here...
Over the years I worked I public health where I worked with other public health entities to develop a common set of ph data elements, I've worked for military health managing clinical IS projects and programs, Ive been a clinical SME to the government and vendors. on the hospital side I've led teams of other clinical informatics staff to lead EHR implementations and sustainment, currently I'm a chief nursing officer of a 4 hospital system. A clinical background helps so much. |
