HR reps: do you divulge anything about where you are in the hiring process?

I applied for a federal job two months ago. I haven't received any update from USAJobs at all and haven't heard anything from the agency. The Job Announcement (which is still open, FWIW) says that you can call a particular HR person with questions. I'm dying to know if they've started interviewing, but I don't want to be a nuisance. Would HR even tell me if they had?

I'm not an HR person or for that matter a Fed employee, but my understanding is they aren't likely to contact you or update your status until the posting is closed - that way you are compared to all the applicants. Of course this could vary widely by agency and type of position - I believe attorneys have a very different hiring process for example.

Yes, if called, I will let an applicant know whether the job has yet been filled or not.

I think that USA Jobs will be updated once HR gives the list of referred candidates (or cert list) to the selecting officials. So you should receive an update before they interview candidates.

This is OP. They called me last week to set up an interview (yay!), but I never got any update through USAJobs.

That is interesting. I assumed everyone (including the selecting officials and all applicants) were notified at once.

Maybe it's because they haven't closed the announcement? Is it some sort of rolling announcement?
