Some of the moms at DC's school are Facebook friends with some of the teachers. Not necessarily the teacher who DC has now but their DC's former teacher. I can't imagine friending my DC's teachers. Are any of you FB friends with teachers at your DC's school?

Absolutely not . Teachers should
Not be viewed as 'friends' in any sense of the word. They are there to educate your children not to be your friend. |
ehhh not a big deal in my opinion. sometimes (esp if you both have similar age kids) you become friends along the way. ive become friends with a few teachers via our pool membership, i dont really find it odd.
It can be a problem is the parent or teacher is gossiping about each other.
I am a teacher, and I often get fb friend requests from the parents of my students. I think it is very inappropriate and I don't accept the invitations. I'm not sure why they want access to my personal life and family, and I certainly don't need to know what they're doing with their time.
I have friended former teachers, but would not friend a current teacher. I have done the same thing with Linkedin. I am actually pretty careful with even my coworkers, you have to actually be my friend to see my postings.

I would say it is only appropriate if the parent had a relationship, such as friend, neighbor, church member, with the teacher before she became a teacher at the school or before the parent had kids at the school.
The other situation where it would be appropriate is if the teacher's child and the parent's child were actually friends. |

My friend who teaches has an account just for her students and parents. Keeps them up to date on assignments and highlights. Then she has a separate account for her private life and she isn't even a friend to the teacher account.

Teacher here- I used to work at a school where many teachers and parents were friends. It made me so uncomfortable and just seemed really inappropriate.
Nope. I also don't facebook with people from work. Facebook is for real friends and family.
Sometimes Facebook automatically asks if the parent has your email address in their email account. So they sometimes aren't necessarily seeking your friend status out on their own.
Unprofessional ~ teachers should know better, but sadly many of them don't.
At our FCPS a lot of the teachers are fB friends with the moms. Makes you feel like an outsider sometimes. I don't know who instigates it, though
