Where do you buy frozen shrimp? Do you consider farmed vs wild (the farming practices), as well as taste and price? Thanks so much!
Giant/Safeway....
Costco
Safeway...we wait for sales on the 2 pound bag. It can be anywhere from $9.98 on up for 2 pounds. We used to get it at Trader Joes (because they were peeled shrimp). But, they don't have good deals anymore.
I buy only wild caught USA shrimp. Farmed and foreign shrimp are full of sewage. Usually buy from Harris Teeter or Giant, Whole Foods is ok too. You want individually quick frozen unpeeled shrimp for the best taste and please don't overcook them.
Harris Teeter, when they have the 2-for-1 sales.
+1. Often end up with the pink Key West ones at WF, which are decently inexpensive. Cheap farmed shrimp are kind of terrible for you. |

Whole Foods sells really good farmed frozen shrimp from Greene Prairie Aqua Farm in Alabama. http://www.greeneprairieaquafarm.com
Whole Foods has rather strict requirements for farmed seafood. A Whole Foods fishmonger told me that they essentially require what would be an organic rating according to European standards. (The US does not have a an organic certification for seafood). (The detailed standards are here http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/sites/default/files/media/Global/Core%20Value/WFM%20Quality%20Standards%20for%20Farmed%20Seafood_salmon%20finfish%20shrimp_%20Jan%201%20%202013.V2_0.pdf). If you are concerned about sustainability, US farmed shrimp, farmed in inland ponds, is considered by Monterey Bay a "best choice". |

Agree with 12:13! Besides WF is there any other store where you can find these?
Trader Joes has raw wild frozen shrimp that's pretty good.
Trader Joes!
