DC vs Fairfax or Montgomery schools elementary schools (public)

Anonymous
We live in DC NW and our children will attend Janney. We will then move to either Fairfax County or Mo county for middle schools.
I am already fretting about how well prepared my children will be compared to the other kids who have attended the "legendary" excellent elementary schools of Fairfax or Montgomery county.

Wow, that's a hard one. Some of us have had kids in two of the three, but not in all of the three, so hard to compare.

I'm sure the OP would be happy to hear comparisons for two of the three if anyone has them. That seemed obvious from the inquiry.

And what about Yu Ying!!!!!!

And after that I can't be bothered. No, my feelings aren't hurt, I really don't care what you think. I just can't be bothered with your type of poster anymore.

We need the Poster Police to point out, in the most obnoxious way possible, that this post belons on the general discussion and not in DC public schools.

It looks like you just did.

Why does this have to be in the general discussion? This poster has kids at a DC public school and she wants to know, essentially, whether her kids would be prepared for a MoCo or Fairfax school. That's in part a DC question, so it belongs here in the DC thread. Or is this thread only for people who want to speak positively about DC schools?

In answer to OP, our kids also attended a upper NW DC public school, said to be one of the better ones. We recently moved to MoCo. Our child is behind in math. Fortunately, she is extremely bright (one of the reasons we left DC schools, which could not provide education options at her level, which a number of her classmates could have also used), and so she catches on quickly to the extra lessons she has to learn. She is a year behind where could have been if she had started in MoCo schools.

Just feeling bitter that my own thread on MoCo schools was subject to a drive-by by some obnoxious poster who said it didn't belong here.

Carry on, carry on....

Thank you so much for this helpful response PP. My child is at Janney. Could it be the school your daughter attended? I am a little worried now that my suspicions are confirmed.

what grade was your child in, when you moved?

As long as you were leaving DC for the 'burbs, why did you pick MoCo? Isn't that sort of the worst of both worlds? (High taxes AND not the best schools?) Why not Fairfax?

Uh... not the person who moved, but I believe the MoCo schools are among the best. Anyway OP's question is how well prepared are kids from DC public schools to enter MoCo or Fairfax Co schools.
