Can I stop prometrium on the 12th day post iui if I get negative hpt result?

Anonymous
I was instructed to use prometrium vaginally until the beta on the 15th day, but I have been suffering from its side effects terribly. I got negative early pregnancy test strip results on the 12th day, can I stop using it so that I don't have to suffer from the side effects in vain and my period can come on time? My period was postponed because of prometrium during the last cycle.

I would drop it.

I would stop taking it.

I stopped 3 days early last month. I was anxious to start a new cycle and didn't want to prolong the inevitable.

Are you sure you are not pregnant? Small HCG levels sometimes do not get detected in HPT. If you have confirmed you aren't I would stop using it and wait for AF.

What if you have a late implanter? I have heard many stories of negative HPTs on day 12 that go on to a positive beta, and pregnancy. You've come this far do you want to look back and wonder what if?

It's two more days, not two weeks or two months.

I sort of agree though I know just how you feel. 12 days post ovulation (or IUI) isn't that long ... can't you hold out a couple more?

Probably not something you want to ask a bunch of random people on a blog. How about trying your nurse or doctor directly? You don't want to stop it early if you are in fact pregnant.

If I'm pregnant I've always gotten a + hpt by 12dpo. I think you can stop taking it. That doesn't mean it's not possible, just not probable.

If you are using wondfo tests they test positive at a level of 6. I had a chemical and was able to test urine along with the every other day blood tests from the RE. If you don't have a positive using those by 12dpo then I would stop the prometrium.

However, if the reason you are seeing the RE is due to short LP then I wouldn't stop taking them until after the blood test. I did not have a short LP but it was just standard for all IUI patients to be given prometrium.

Thank you! I don't have a short LP and I am using wondfo. I just stopped taking it today and will go for a blood test tomorrow.

I'm on a very similar schedule as OP (but going in on Friday for the beta) and also using wondo, had a negative today (12 dpo) and was wondering the same things about the prometrium. Hope the OP (as well as myself!) end up having a good surprise from our bloodwork.
