Requesting records from Foxhall

Anonymous
I'm considering switching practices, and need to request my records from Foxhall for a first appt with a new practice. Does anyone have experience doing this? Can I request my records but not immediately sever my relationship with Foxhall (in case things don't work out with the new practice)? Any advice on how best to do this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your records are your own. No doctor should give a difficult time or sever relations with you for requesting them. Call the receptionist and ask for details, price, etc. You will have to give written consent, and if you are worried, just say you want a copy for yourself. Then pick it up or have it sent to your address.

(Totally OT) Would you mind sharing why you are leaving? I am actually trying to find a new OB. Intensely disliked the first practice and was considering Foxhall.

I like Foxhall, but I live in Virginia and it is a hassle to get to them.

Agree with PP. You do have the right to your records (although they may charge you for a copy). You can always say that you want them for yourself. Also, I am not a patient of Foxhall but from what I hear it's a big, busy practice - so there is a good chance your doctor would not even know that you requested the records in the first place.

I am with Foxhall and because it is a busy practice, I would get on trying to get my records ASAP because you will find that it will take time.
