City Collegiate Charter School

Does anyone have information on this school? I haven't heard it mentioned much anymore. I heard they had alot of turmoil in the past but I'm not sure what came of it. We are looking for a middle school.

I know of a couple kids who went there from Ward 3 schools who left and went to Deal or private. Don't know anyone there now.

It's a pretty new school, only serving 1 or 2 grades so far I think. Look on FOCUS (Friends of Choice in Urban Schools) DC's website under their school directory for some detailed information:

I think this info from PP is not correct. OP are you talking about City Collegiate Public Charter - http://www.citycollegiatepcs.org/welcome.cfm -- which is a middle school? It's true that they've had some turmoil, like many start-up charters do. One of the original founders was the first principal and she left in a dispute with the board (over what I can not remember). After the original head they recruited a guy who had been the academic dean at Sidwell, so that can't be all bad!

They are moving to a location just north of Dupont Circle next year, I think, near Conn. and S St., plus they are seeking accreditation for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years program, which is good and provides a lot of extra training for teachers ...

Can't say I have any personal experience there though ....

I am the PP. I didn't deliberately post misleading information, but I apologize if it came across that way. I knew that the school was a first year school in 2007, serving only 1 grade (grade 7). I've since learned that actually means 2006 - 2007, but in any case their history can't be very long. That's not intended as a negative though. Every school has (or had to) to be young sometime.

City Collegiate appears to have a nicer location than most new charters and I've only heard good things about the IB. I believe it takes 3 to 4 years to actually be accredited, but it is an ambitious start. Good luck to them and please post more if you learn something interesting.

No, no, sorry, didn't think you were deliberately misleading... rather I read the post slightly incorrectly, thinking you were saying they only served grades 1 and 2 (meaning elementary) and not that they only had one or two grades, which is what you said and was accurate.....

City Collegiate is a relatively new charter. They were in the Jellef building next to the Safeway in upper Gtown, but will be moving to the Ct./S St. location next year.

My bad for misreading, apologies.....
