My doctor's office says they do not require a follow-up blood test after my first 7 1/2 blood test if everything else is normal.
I thought a second blood test was required to test hcg levels, shortly after the first... I'll go in at 11 1/2 weeks... should I be concerned about getting another test before then? |
I had to request a second blood test because I wanted to make sure the levels were increasing appropriately. I don't have a lot of patience, though, and had about two weeks to go before my first ultrasound (which I had at 9 weeks). The office was fine with me coming back in for the second blood test--but they didn't originally offer. |
I don't think it's typical to get the second draw, unless there is a risk of miscarriage/ectopic or some other problem. My OB doesn't even do another draw until the AFP/quad screen test which is around 16 weeks or so. Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy! |
With my DD (3yrs ago) my OB didn't do any blood draw early on to check the hcg levels. With my current pg they did ask me to come in right away when I told them I got a PPT (4 days before missed period). My numbers were very low, so that's why they told me to come in for another test. I tried to tell them that it's probably really low because I was extremely early.
I don't think they would have had me come back for another test if the numbers had been higher. I know that's not very accurate since the point of the test is to see that the numbers are going up a certain rate, but maybe they aren't concerned if your numbers are high. |
