I would like to hear from women who've had some experience/success with interviewing ob-gyns before signing on with their practice. I'm at 20 weeks right now. I've gone to OBGYN Associates for my first couple visits but I don't have a great feeling about the people there so far. I definitely don't feel like I'm developing a relationship of trust with the doc I've seen there. A lot of pregnancy books recommend interviewing several doctors to talk to them about their practice and philosophy for delivery. Have any of you done this? Did you make a normal appointment to see the doc or did you explain to the receptionist that you wanted to "interview" the doctor before deciding to come to their practice? It seems like most doctors wouldn't be too keen on spending their precious time on talking to a person who MIGHT become a patient. Any advice you can offer would be helpful. I'm particularly thinking of trying to find a single-doctor practice who delivers at Holy Cross. OBGYN associates, with its seven delivery doctors, seems very impersonal to me and I'm not keen on not knowing which doc will be at the delivery. |
I went to two different practices before I got pregnant to see what style I might like. One was definitely out--the Dr. was fine but the office was a nightmare, unorganized and the whole environment seemed really stressful. And when you are going as often as you have toward the end? I didn't think I could handle that. Fortunately, the other office was great and I liked the Dr. right away. This is VA so that doesn't help you....
Many people on this board love Dr. Footer who is a solo practioner who delivers at HC.... |
Much like the PP, I tried out a few practices/doctors before getting pregnant - I would just go for my annual gyn appt and then see how I liked it. I haven't heard of OBs doing "interview" appointments, but you can call the practice and find out. You might be charged (I hear some pediatricians now charge for an "interview" appt). |
I know you said you wanted a one-dr practice but if you are open to a practice with multiple drs I would highly recommend that you meet with Dr. Berger-Weiss at Capital Women's care in Silver Spring. They also have a dr that I adore named Dr. Travers (A man) I have never wanted a male dr but I love love love him! (They deliver at Holy Cross which is the best hospital to have a baby at I think after my experience!) |
