| I am trying to help my husband find a non-government statistical job in the DC metro area. He is currently a PhD student in another state, but has decided he wants to find a job and quit the PhD program soon. I live/work in DC and the long distance is killing us. I have noticed most of the jobs I find online are government. He isn't able to apply as he is a Bangladeshi citizen. We applied for his green card about 8 months ago. Any advice? Anyone have experience changing from a student visa to work visa. He has a masters and BA in Statistics. |
| Can he program? He can find a job through a contractor. But, as far as I know, getting a contracting position in the government without being a permanent resident is tough. |

Some typical non-government options are universities, research organizations (like a non-profit think tank), consulting firms...
I'm assuming you've searched on some job search engine sites for "statistician", what about Biostatistician? What field of 'study' is he interested in? Does he have any prior paid work experience in statistics? If I read your post right he wants to leave the PhD program so instead he'd have an MS in Stats? Jobs are competitive these days but if he has an MS and a bit of experience there are some out there. |

| Has he reached out to others including fellow students or church if applicable from his home country? It's often a good way to network and find out about jobs. |
