Hi - I'm looking for a late October or November 1/2 that is not a huge event (not overly crowded, something I can still get into), perhaps a trail run. Any thoughts?

Agree with PP. I just narrowed down half marathons in a 6wk Oct-Nov range and there's probably ten within a 100mi radius. The Charlottesville Half is probably gorgeous. The Heritage Half Mary is in Gainesville in mid-October and is probably small and close. Baltimore Half Marathon is a fabulous event, but definitely not small.
If you're willing to try something different, the Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run series in Virginia are only 10milers, but they are tough. |
My friends like the one in Nov in Richmond.
You should check out the Freedom's run in Harper's ferry [http://www.freedomsrun.org/Default.aspx] in October. DH and I ran (half and full) last year and enjoyed it a lot. Small, nice weather, nice course and a very fun post-race party. I'd do it again this year but DH is travelling and I can't run with an infant.

Charlottesville is VERY hilly, if that matters
Baltimore. Little earlier (mid-Oct) and a larger race but extremely well organized and supported by the community. A great experience.
OP here. Thanks for those ideas and insights - exactly what I was looking for!
I did the disney half marathon and had a blast. It's usually in january though, and obviously requires travel. We combined it with a mini vacation
Atlanta has one on thanksgiving day
That's an unusual time to have a marathon. I hope they serve turkey at the finish line. |
