Federal Government Question-- TDY to a higher grade position, when I return do I keep the salary?

Anonymous

So I am being offered a TDY and they are trying to sweeten the pot and make the TDY at a grade above my current position. I would be working for a different agency and could dictate how long I would be on TDY (if this makes a difference).

My question is - when I return do I keep the higher salary (knowing that I will be going back to the lower grade)?

If I do keep the higher salary is there an amount of time that I have to be TDY in order to keep it?

I have been searching OPM regs but cannot find anything on point.

Take the tdy! Maybe they will keep you on at that salary or you could leverage that HS level history to get another position at that level

+1

I took one for 6 months and then returned to my original position at my original salary. I was offered the job permanently, but really did not like it, so I declined.

However, I was able to use that experience to move into a higher grade in my original position shortly after.

Ummm, no, you don't keep the salary. In fact, I had a case where the Agency forgot to change the employee's salary back. The employee didn't say anything and two years later they caught it and told him he owed the money. He fought it every which way and LOST.
