Specifically in the nonprofit world? I get the constant advice to "network" with absolutely no actual feedback. I am finishing an MPA program, left my old job (law) and try to really be friendly and reach out to some of the folks in my classes/ in my program. I've gotten a few recommendations to apply to positions through some people but nothing panned out.
How can I actively build a network in the nonprofit sector? I don't want to just let it build slowly/orgaincally since I am unemployed and sick of it! Any tips would be greatly appreciated (you have no idea how much!). I feel that I have great skills but not direct industry experience. BUT paralegal skills- dealing with fed agencies, clients, deadlines and lots of writing and my volunteer work really DO translate well into the organization and communication skills needed for NPO program associate/management positions, communications or development positions. I just can't get anyone to give me that 1st chance. I'd work like a dog for the right organization.
How can I build a network that shows that to others?
