| What is the going rate for a tutor for private language lessons for a 6 year old? We are in NWDC. My son went to a language immersion preschool and we want to keep him as exposed to the language going forward as possible. Thanks. |

As a monolingual parent to bilingual kids I have some other suggestions. Let's say the target language is Spanish:
* Saturday morning cartoons on Univision (if you allow TV) * Changing the language tracks to Spanish on DVDs * Attending any Hispanic cultural events where lots of people will be speaking the target language. Hispanic Heritage month is just around the corner. Ask a vendor who's not so busy to help your child pick out a souvenir in Spanish. If there are games or pony rides ask all operators to use only Spanish * Spanish story time - the Hyattsville library used to have this * Go out for a Mexican/Columbian/Salvadoran/Peruvian meal at an off peak time and ask the server to help your child order in Spanish. * Check out Tumblebooks for free through library websites, they have audio e-books in Spanish * Sign up for a language class with, say, Lango Kids, so your child is too busy having fun to notice their learning in another language * check for a Meetup group with other immersion parents |

22:56, you are not answer OP's questions. All your activities sound fun, but OP is looking for a tutor who hopefully helps the child to read and write, not just speak a few simple sentences.
I think it is $75/hour for Mandarin language tutor. |
| 22:56 here - Op does not mention anything about a tutor helping his/her son read or write in the target language. The post specifically says they want to keep the child exposed to the language as much as possible. So while I could not offer any guidance on the costs of a tutor, I did offer other (totally relevant) ways to meet OPs goal. Next time maybe you'll consider posting your input and refrain from critiquing other posters. And FWIW all of those activities help my bilingual children (who are also biliterate) improve their vocabulary and fluency in the target language. |
| I charge 50$ per hour. |
| I tutor French, $30/hour. |

I loved Language Stars for classes.
But it's not private lessons. I also feel really bad because we have been paying the au pair down the street $20 an hour to "play/tutor" with our kids one on one. They go to an immersion school and it prevents summer slide in the summer. She's been doing a great job with them writing and expanded vocab and grammar. |
In the kid's home or in yours? |
| What? $20 an hour, specially if it's Spanish! |
| 13:21 here - we never said what language. I'm paying $20 for German. |
| Just find a babysitter who speaks the language. |
Absurd! |
| Where do you go about finding a private tutor? I'd be interested in Spanish. |
Kid's home. |
