Daughter, a very good student who is highly accomplished considering three schools to apply early decision to.
George Washington Johns Hopkins UNC-Chapel Hill All three are obviously great schools and each offer the program she is looking for. What is your impression of these schools? |
| My son graduated from GW three years ago cum laude. It was a wonderful experience for him. He went onto the business school at Harvard, so obviously his GW degree carried him far. No complaints here other than the hefty price tag! |
| I graduated GW law and have had a very successful career. But in my mind, GW is not in the same league with the other two schools on your list. |
Same here on all fronts. |
GW- too expensive Johns Hopkins- better reputation- located in a questionable neighborhood UNC-Chapel Hill- Too far south for my liking. Does she plan to go Greek? William and Mary? UVA? |
|
GW- Good solid school, very expensive, high cost of living, International Business program one of the best in the country
JH- Great school, very bad neighborhood, ideal for pre med don't see why someone would go if they are not pre med UNC-Good school, good campus with lots of sports if she is into that, some might feel the more southern location a negative, I personally would like it. |
| GW has elite graduate schools, especially certain areas of law, but for undergrad JHU is way above both GW and UNC. |
|
JHU- Pre med, crappy area to live in (only worth it if doing pre med)
GWU- Solid school, great graduate program, DC is fun but expensive UNC- good reputation, the south thing is not for everyone buts its a nice area to live in, good quality of life |
| Have you visited JHU? If not, you should. I would hesitate to send my son there, and absolutely would not send my daughter. |
| GWU or UNC gets my vote. JHU only if your kid is an exceptional pre med student, its a real think tank in a pretty bad neighborhood. |
| I've heard the neighborhood around JHU is improving. The real problem there is that the atmosphere of the school is highly competitive. I've heard from several people with connections there that its just an unpleasant place to go to school. |
| The competition will be different at these schools. |
The little buttercups will have to experience the real world sooner or later - they can't live in a bubble. JHU neighborhood is NOT that bad - it just isn't lily white. |
You are insane if you think the only problem with Baltimore city is it isn't lily white (which is a trite over used expression). There have been 143 murders this year, even the mayor and police chief think there is a problem. http://chamspage.blogspot.com/2013/01/2013-baltimore-city-homicides.html |
| GW Grad here then went onto JHU for med school. Both get my vote! |
