School of Rock -- Silver Spring

Anybody familiar with School of Rock in SS? My daughter wants to play guitar, and I was wondering if anybody did private lessons through them. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Bump! Anyone familiar with this program?

My kid has done multiple summer camps at that location, and had a great time. However, it's definitely not my first choice for a toddler/preschooler (unless you posted in the wrong forum).

It's kind of gritty, and there are a lot of teens just kind of hanging out. That's not a criticism - teens need safe places to hang out, and they feel at home if it feels a little "dangerous" without actually being dangerous.

My kids have done after school camps and really enjoyed them. I'm not sure what to make of the "gritty" comment as that has not been my experience at all. We haven't done private lessons so I can't offer any experience in terms of specific instructors, but my kids have loved the camps.

School of Rock is a great alternative to more traditional music instruction as at the Levine School of Music, which is also a great place to learn music and has locations in Silver Spring and in DC as well. My kids have done summer camp at Levine - they have a musical theater approach to teaching music in the summer camp. I think it's more a preference in terms of the style of classes, instruments offered and format but both are great resources in the community.
