I would like to take my mom out for a tea party (i.e tea + mini cakes/cookies, etc.) to celebrate her retirement. I'm having trouble locating a place. I thought some of the fancy hotels would have something, but no luck.
Any ideas? In Fairfax area if possible. |
The Ritz Carlton at Pentagon City has a tea pretty much everyday. I took MIL and mom there and they loved it.
You may also want to try the Bailiwick Inn in Fairfax. Friends have really enjoyed their afternoon tea. I haven't been there myself, though. I think the atmosphere at the Bailiwick is probably more quaint than the Ritz Carlton. Depends on what your mom likes, of course. Congratulations to her on her retirement! We took a co-worker who was retiring to tea at the Ritz in Tysons last spring and it was really nice and fun! They have a couple different packages to choose from that ranged from about $50 per person to about $80 per person. |
PP here - I was off on the price for tea at the Ritz. It ranges from $39 per person to $51 per person. Here is the menu:

I also love the Ritz Tyson's. I wouldn't go with the Pentagon City if you can get to the Tyson's just as easily....it's just a little nicer. |
The Willard Hotel |
check out the following website for other options www.teaguide.net.

I second the Willard Hotel. It is in DC but it is so nice and the spread for the tea is wonderful. You feel like you have stepped back in time! |
Thanks for the replies. I didn't even think of the Ritz either in Tysons or DC. The other replies look promising too - Balliwick and the Willard.
Keep them coming! |
I second the Ritz at Tysons II, but think the best high tea in town is at the Hay Adams. Unfortunately, I think they only do it at holiday time these days. |
The Mayflower also has a nice high tea. |
The Four Seasons in Georgetown has high tea, and there two British shops in the area--The British Pantry in Aldie, VA and The British Collection Company in Alexandria--both of them have tea rooms.
You may also want to check with local restaurants--they are usually really slow during tea time, so they may be happy to accommodate. |
Mayflower is great--and they're good with kids if you ever want to take them--some coworkers and I took some girls we tutored (5th/6th grade) there several years ago and the server made them special mint tea and hot chocolate. |
Try Mandarin Occidental, SW DC |
This is a few years old, so the prices will be higher now, but still a good reference. And FWIW I love tea at the Ritz and the Four Seasons and hosted a bridal shower tea at the Mayflower that was lovely.
