half day of telecommuting

Anonymous
I'm looking at my schedule and I can work in the office for 1/2 day and telecommute for 1/2 day. Is there any point to such an arrangement? It seems like it would defeat the entire point of telecommuting.

The main benefit to that schedule would to driving back home in non-rush hour traffic. In my situation, that would save me an extra 45 minutes per day in traffic.

Same as pp. i do this sometimes, to avoid the afternoon rush hour and be able to pick up my kids a half hour earlier but still put the same work hours on the clock. I can also put something in the oven (no intense chopping or anything, but putting a dish in the oven or boiling a pot of water) while i work in the afternoon, allowing me to serve dinner that much earlier.

Better commute, more flex hours (you pick up the kids?)

It works really well for days with doctors appointments, etc.

LOL

Why is this funny?

When my husband does this it's because he's dialed into the office around 4 am to work on something and doesn't want to break his groove. He grabs an early lunch, then heads in by noon to participate in the obligatory office politicking.
