| There are 4 tested subjects, not only 2. Where is the rest of the data?? |
| It seems to me like science scores really measure if the school is teaching strong content. I would like to see them as well. |
| Writing counted last year (12-13) and Science counts this year (13-14) but rarely do those scores come out and NEVER in line with reading and math. (Although the science trends were discussed in the OSSE report.) |
Shouldn't we get the WHOLE picture?? I would love to see the Writing and Science breakdowns just like Reading and Math are advertised to us to see if students are being taught to do more than 2 subjects in DCPS. It's only right. Is there a way to get them published so the public can see them?? |
If it doesn't count for IMPACT it doesn't count!!! |
| Also, the science test takes place in only 5th, 8th and 10th grades. It is supposed to cover material learned all the way up through the prior grades. Science tests will be changing too soon because of the Next Generation Science Standards. They are still not yet finalized but many states, including DC, have "pre-joined". The new standards are awesome--lots o Enginneering and Science practices, not just content. |
| Why not 6th, 7th and 9th? |
LAME EXCUSE...High schools only test 1 of their 4 grades (10th grade), but we publish and parade their scores every year. Science and writing are tested in more grades and taken by more students than the high school DC CAS assessments are SO THAT IS NOT A VALID REASON TO HIDE THE DATA. |
| I agree! I don't think they should hide the data. I am an 8th grade science teacher in the District (and a parent of a PreK 4 charter student). |
| It's absurd that we don't yet have access to each school's detailed data showing how many students were tested in each grade along with all the demographic breakdown. When will that be released!? |
I am PP and I agree, but it seems like DC spends more time on aggregating data to fire teachers under IMPACT than on creating a solid curricula and working on a ensuring the teachers have all the resources possible to teach each child. |
| Frankly my dear!!! Go with the flow nation-wide and you'll see why the science and writing scores are not included. Nothing to hide but there's nothing needed. |
We never get the whole picture. What they share with us is just how many students in different categories made below basic, basic, proficient, or advance. We never know how or why they fall into those categories. We don't know whether the questions were reasonable or even made sense. We don't know which questions were scored and which questions were simply there for research. We don't know how reliable or valid these tests are. |
5 is elementary, 8th is middle and 10th is high school. plus 6th and 9th are transition years for students assuming they aren't attending a pk to 8 or 6 to 12 school. also dcum parent complain about how much time is devoted to testing, why advocate for more tests? |
No, but if they already took the time to take the tests, at least give parents and students the results. |
