SAT tutor cost?

We are looking to start preparing our DS for the SAT. What is the approximate cost for a private tutor these days? Is there a difference for English vs Math? What is the best way to find one? TIA?

It varies widely. We paid $185/hour at Prep Matters which is at the high end.

We had a Peer tutor with 800, 750, 760 (M, R, W) scores work with our daughter over the summer. It was less expensive than group class at Kaplan, but she covered all of the material 1on1 at our house. My daughter needed more help with Math than writing so I had the tutor spend more time/focus on that. The company was doing a special at the beginning of the summer and it came out to $35 an hour (not sure if they are still running this). It included practice test, analysis, etc. I plan on getting a Pro tutor in the fall for last 100 pts but I wanted to cover the basics and get my daughter going this summer. Anyway, depending on your budget and need, it could be a good option. Aristotle Circles is company.

We used Capital Educators for our DD to prepare for the ACT. It was a great course for her to get a general understanding of test strategies and the formatting of the test. I believe it was around $500 for a course that she took over her spring break. We also used a wonderful tutor located near the Landon School to help her focus on the math section of the test, because DD has some math-based learning disabilities and needed a bit more help and individualized attention than what was provided in the group classes. I think that we paid the tutor around $150/hour, and while it was pricey, her help truly made all of the difference in the world. I wish I could remember her name to recommend, but I can't at the moment--I'll try to look it up and post later. Good luck to your DS, OP!

I lost count. At least 15? Plus a couple more for subject tests later in the spring.
