Question about heading back to the RE for #2

Anonymous
I was very lucky in that after biting the bullet and heading to the RE, I quickly got pregnant with my DS using Clomid and TI. Now that we're thinking about #2, I was wondering if the RE usually makes you go through all those initial tests again or if you can skip to the treatment that worked for you last time. Also, do you have to try naturally for a certain amount of time again? Any experiences?

We had to do some testing over again, but mostly not. We started with the same protocol as the first time.

We used DF, and I had to repeat bloodwork and day 3 sono. DH did g have to do SA and no HSG for me. We tried for a year before heading back. Why not just try on your own a few months?

I got lucky and got pregnant on my first IUI with #1. The second time around, we just went directly back to IUI. No testing the 2nd time around. I also got lucky that time and now have two beautiful kids. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses!

13:09 - I don't ovulate on my own so trying for a few months is pretty pointless. Still haven't gotten a period after weaning completely 4 months ago.

Then if clomid worked for you the first time, definitely go back. Good luck!

Unless you have insurance coverage, no need to TTC on your own, especially if you don't ovulate. As for tests, it depends on the clinic. Mine made me repeat Day 3 (over a year old), HSG (but only because it was several years old), and DH had to do a SA (over a year old). Since we're doing IVF, we had to do a couple of others that wouldn't apply.

I got pregnant with an IUI at DF - they required the same battery of tests for me the second time - blood work, sono, and HSG (I had a c-section with #1, so maybe that is why?) - I was about 8 MO PP and we hadn't started trying. No repeat SA though. We got pregnant on the first IUI again this time.

Congrats on the second pregnancy! I'm about 8.5 months PP so we're looking at similar timing - hope we're as lucky!

This is OP btw. We have an appointment with the RE tomorrow. I'm hoping to at least skip the HSG - I had it 1.5ish years ago and had a vaginal delivery so we'll see.

Thanks again for all responses.
