Hi,

Hawks Cay in the Florida Keys if you want to stay in the US.
Beaches (all inclusive) Negril, in Jamaica. Amazing property and so many families with children for your kids to play with. This is my first choice always as Negril is beautiful and enjoyable for families, couples, basically anyone and everyone. I don't recommend Mexico, I've been 5 or 6 times and I'm always disappointed. If you are going to consider Mexico, try to stay in the Riviera Maya. The Mayan Palace was the best place I've stayed- but this was over 10 years ago. Other islands I've loved: St. Thomas, Antigua, and The Cayman Islands. Islands I want to go to: Angulla, Aruba, St Bart's, St John, St Kitts, Cuba (not happening) and CuraƧao. Good luck OP |
| I don't think any part of Florida is truly warm enough at Christmas if you plan to play on the beach & swim, but we have done grand cayman which was cool at night but great during the day - we went over New Years. |
| Did grand cayman last year. Simply beautiful. Good luck getting reasonable airfare for xmas at this late date , unless you don't mind it taking you all day to get there with layovers. united flies direct ns from dca to therr. |

The further south the better your weather. I like little islands so I'd try Bonaire, or big sister island of Aruba, St. Lucia, Tobago or Barbados? I can tell you that Christmas and especially New Years is high season in St. Bart, rents go from $4000 per week to $12,000.
In the US try Hawaii, or Key West. It was pretty nice in Marco Island last year but just a few days before it was freezing, like winter jackets on the beach cold in nearby Sarasota. |
OP here- thanks to all! We'd better get on it or it looks like we'll be SOL.

| Amelia Island, FL. It's north Florida so probably won't be warm enough to swim, but it's a great family destination and has a cute historic section that is nicely decorated for the holidays. |
We go to South Florida every Christmas. Absolutely warm enough to swim and go to the beach. Weather usually in the high 70's or low 80's. Northern and Central Florida is more iffy. |

We've gone to the Keys over Christmas a couple of years. We are avid snorkelers and divers, so we are motivated to get in the water. All I can say is that in December and January plan on wearing a wetsuit to snorkel. The water is very cold.
You still probably have lots of options in the Keys for lodging, and since its the continental US, you can fly into a number of FL airports and drive the rest of the way. Hawaii airfares for Xmas have gotten steep. If you decide to go, rent the car ASAP as they get snapped up early. Hawaii is amazing. Grand Cayman is also lovely, but as a PP said, getting the flight booked this late could be tricky. |
