I have had significant challenges recently with a family member. I have been very slow to recognize unhealthy patterns in that relationship over a period of many years.
After discussing the situation at length with my husband, I have come to the conclusion that I need outside help developing strategies for boundary-setting. I have very minimal experience with counseling but I'd like to try it. Please don't rip me to shreds for asking for advice. (It has already been a tough time for me.) NOVA location preferred. Thank you! |
| Good for you, op. too many people won't take the first giant step so I say good for you, seriously! I wish more would! |
| They to avoid the IMAGO people, who seem rampant in No Va. which seems very liberal with their licensing. Are you near DC or MD, OP? |

OP here.
PP, I'm not sure what IMAGO therapy is but when I briefly googled it, looks like it might be focused on couples therapy. In the spirit of clarity, things with DH are fine. I'm just struggling with a family member who has increasingly become more toxic over the past couple of years. I suspect potential mental/emotional problems and I don't want to sever the relationship but I need help establishing boundaries. To answer your question, I am inside the beltway so can go to DC/MD as needed. Thanks very much for your advice. I really appreciate it. |
| Noella Driscoll. Google her, she has an office in DC and also sees patients in her home in Annandale. She helped me through a very rough time. |
| OP=PP sorry! |
