Payscale has an interesting annual "best" list for colleges and universities. Rather than looking at academic reputations, they look at return on investment -- which schools return the most salary over a 30 year period. They break it down by major and gender and region, as well as creating a top 20 list.

Not too surprisingly, the schools at the top of the list are mostly tech schools. Surprisingly to me, the schools that get included are not just CalTech and MIT, but also lesser known tech schools like Missouri Science and Technology and Colorado Mines and SD Mines.
