Thought the dishwasher was clean when I pulled a bowl out of it to serve my lunch. Turns out it wasn't and I most likely ate out of a bowl that had only been rinsed and/or wiped with a sponge (not new) without soap. The bowl likely contained shrimp and pasta from dinner the night before. Am I going to get food poisoning? I guess nothing I can do now but wait and see.

Gross. I'm sure you're fine, but that would gross me out too.
No but you should buy a dishwasher that doesn't need pre rinsing they have built in food disposers.
I did that once and it grossed me out for the whole day. I was fine but it happens.
Thanks for the reassurance and for not blaming me for the mistake. It is so gross!!! Fingers crossed.
Don't worry, OP. For thousands of years we've survived eating off of dirtier things than a rinsed-off bowl.
Yeah. Now a bowl that had spaghetti, is kind of gross, but it's not hideously unsanitary unless it had raw meat on it first -- you're not going to develop some awful disease and die. When we camp we are not always able to wash out our bowls and utensils (limited water supply), so we wipe them off thoroughly instead. I wouldn't want to do this permanently but for 3-4 days it's fine. We've never gotten sick or had any problems. I do this at work as well for a day or two if I'm too lazy to wash my spoon or fork every time I use it. |
