Hi, I'd love to hear from some parents who were accepted in a school outside of their boundaries. I'm becoming very disenchanted w/the whole process, feeling like the chances are slim to none when it comes to getting into my school(s) of choice, especially when you're limited to 3 applications...
Also what public schools are out their with no 'out-of-boundary' limitations? |
hedge your bets by applying to some charters |
We went out of boundary, but that was before the baby boomlet and the lottery system. |
Hyde Elementary has a magnet program at the lower grades so you apply directly to the school. |
I know a handful of families that got lucky in the lotteries, their school choices were (in alpha order): Bancroft, Capitol Hill Cluster, Lafayette, and Shepherd.
Agree with the PP who suggested hedging bets with charters as they each have their own lottery. Some of them are already accepting for next year so you might want to contact them now: Cap City, E.L. Haynes, Two Rivers, and Washington Yu Ying. |
I know a family who got into Eaton via lottery.
Definitely agree you should try the charters, they have no neighborhood boundaries which is good, but the popular ones have a LOT of families competing for their placements so you want to get your name on the lists ASAP. |
