Moving to DC - Tell Me About this Neighborhood

Anonymous
My family is relocating to DC from Rhode Island and we're looking to rent for a year before buying. What do you think of this rental in Brookmont?
http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6425-Broad-St-Bethesda-MD-20816/37167559_zpid/ Is the neighborhood good? How are the schools? My husband's job is in Foggy Bottom and I work from home. Thank you!

Oh, and what is so "famous" about this neighborhood? I've never heard of it.

I've never heard of Brookmont, either...

Much better schools than Vrieekmint.

Schools are good, getting to Foggy Bottom will involve driving (not the metro) and will not be too bad. It's a funny area though - a bit remote for my taste. Over the line and you are in the Palisades, up the street you are in Bannockburn/Cabin John area. '

Are you renting sight unseen?

Brookmont is a great eclectic neighborhood----sort of Bethesda's version of Takoma Park, though there seem to be allot of tear-downs in the last few years replaced by huge homes. Easy access to the C&O Canal---very popular with the kayakers. At one time, many families chose Brookmont specifically because they were kayakers. Very sweet preschool within the neighborhood. In a very high cost of living part of Bethesda (20816)---elementary school is Bannockburn---very convenient to beltway and close to DC line.

Are you from around here? I rent my 4BR rowhouse in DC for more that and the schools are crappy. Looks like a good deal to me - at least for a family with kids.

It appears it's been available for three months, so yes, the asking rent is too high. Nice neighborhood though. Bargain hard.

I live very near brookmont. It's a very convenient location and close to DC. Commute is by car as a pp pointed out. It's a bit of an earthy crunchy neighborhood but I think that's changing some. Because its kind of isolated (between the river and macarthur blvd) there is a good community feel. Excellent schools.
