Can anyone provide their experience pro or con on these options? I'm worried that between the big glider chair and ottoman together, it may be take up too much space in the nursery. But I can see how the high back might have some advantages (resting your head). An upholstered chair seems cuter, too, but maybe not as useful? |
We have the dutalier with the ottoman that also moves....LOVE it. We have a very small room for both both of my daughters, but the high back has been CRUCIAL. I think the big chairs are "prettier" but they are not as practical. |
I had this same issue when looking for chairs. I ended up getting an upholstered one. I really hated the look of the lower-end Dutalier wooden rockers, and thought the fancy ones were much nicer and more comfortable but we couldn't/wouldn't afford almost $1000 for one! I like the cloth one fine, and we have one that reclines which is nice, esp. since we don't have room in the nursery for the ottoman/footstool. I like the soft arms for resting on, too. I haven't found the head-rest issue to be a problem. |
In case you will like to upholester, my husband did all kind of restoration on furniture please give us a call thank you. 202-438-8598 Dee |
We have an upholestered glider/ottoman and we love it. We're getting ready to use it for our second, but have never really stopped using it from our first (who is now 3.5)! As our DD grew it was nice that we still fit in the chair together. Even with my hug pregnant belly she and I can still snuggle in the chair together and read books or have some downtime. I'm not sure we would fit comfortably in a wooden glidder. Also, we spent a LOT of nights in ours between infant reflux and toddler ear infections. I think the fabric is much more comfortable than the wood. Something to think about if you plan to use it beyond the infant stage. We got ours from Buy Buy Baby (huge selection) and it's been worth every penny. |
We have a Dutailier glider with no ottoman. The model that we have has fantastic lower back support. I prefer no ottoman, as I find that having my feet on the floor supports my back better. The head support is key - I've often fallen asleep in it while singing and rocking dd to sleep. I tried some of the upholstered chairs that rock and found that they just weren't as comfy. The back support was key for breastfeeding. |
Dutaillier also has an upholstered gliding armchair if you want the best of both worlds. |
