Hi, I have had 3 mc's in 3 yrs, and one healthy baby girl (Thank God!). I have the MTHFR gene, and am consulting w Hassan soon- anyone have exp w him or others? Thanks! |
I'm sorry to hear about your m/c's. I am not familiar with Dr. Hassan. Are you hetero or homozygous for MTHFR? I had a 2nd trimester m/c earlier this year and found out I'm homo. My RE wants me to use lovenox next pregnancy but I went to Dr. Ghidini (perinatalogist at INOVA Alexandria) and he said I shouldn't take it. If anyone knows a peri in the area that believes in using injectable blood thinners as treatment, please let me know. Sorry to hijack your post! |
I am homo also- with the sucessful pregnancy I was on Folt-X (to sustain the lack on B12 etc ect) and baby aspirin, I think that lovenox is very drastic from my research- but i am not a Dr. (smile). Good luck and let me know how things turn out. |
I am hetero for MTHFR and have 2 other mutations. I don't know Dr. Hassan but highly recommend the Georgetown MFM OBs. I had 4 miscarriages before 2 healthy pregnancies, both under Lovenox, while followed by a Georgetown OB and hematologist. In my experience, OBs and endocrinologists who don't work closely with hematologists tend to dismiss low-molecular-weight heparin treatments like Lovenox... in my case I am convinced that's what made the difference. It is not such a drastic treatment and it is more commonly prescribed as people would think, with high rates of success. It is a pain to inject daily, and you have to have an induction to give birth because of the risks of bleeding and to be able to have an epidural, but that's a small price to pay for a healthy pregnancy and baby...
Good luck! |
I agree with pp would stated find an ob that works close with a hemo. guy. I used heparin and baby asprin for last successful preg. after 3 failed. I moved in middle of preg at 6 mnths and could not find a doc who seemed to have a clue. one told me not to take the heparin. I did finally find a doc willing to take me using heparin, He did not really have a grasp of the whole thing but with a little help from my first ob, we made it thru. scary. The guy that told me not to take the heparin was a "specialist" and head of the OB at Norfolk General. I think there are far better doc's in the d.c. area, so finding one that is familar with your issue should not be a problem. Good luck |
18:28 poster here. I just got back from a consultation with Perinatal Associates of Northern Virginia. They support lovenox as treatment in my case. The dr. I met with said 30% of her patients are on it due to thrombophilias. They work with Fairfax hospital though so it is a bit of a hike for a DC resident. Also, you have to be referred from your OB or RE. But, I am relieved to have found someone that will support my decision! Their info appears below. Good luck to everyone.
