Likelihood of Miscarriage after BFP from IVF

Anonymous
Hi. I'm almost 41, have a 3-year-old conceived naturally, and got a BFP recently from stimulated IVF. My hCG numbers look good - 3769 today, 19dp3dt. But now I'm stressed out by the possibility of miscarriage. I've read that the miscarriage rate after IVF isn't much higher than for "normal" pregnancies, but are there any statistics? I'm especially interested in numbers for women >40 as the pregnancy progresses.

When I was pregnant with my son, the OB said that once you see the heartbeat, "you're 80% there." Is that also true for IVF? I feel like even with all the positive signs (follicles stimulated; eggs retrieved, fertilized, transferred; hCG numbers; etc.), the anxiety never decreases but just turns into anxiety about something else. Should I just accept the fact that I'll be a basket case, at least about viability, until 20 weeks?

Thanks.

I think the heartbeat thing comes into play around 8 weeks since that when most people have their first ultrasounds. There's really nothing you can do. I still worry, though not as much, at 26 weeks.

I think that whole 5% chance after you see the heartbeat is a bunch of crap. I'm 40 and m/c at 9 weeks. I do think you need to just accept that you will be a basket case, unfortunately. GL to you.

I am 32 and was a male fertility case (no issues for me). I am 26 weeks pregnant from ivf and I still worry. It never goes away.
I try to just live milestone by milestone and breathe.
You'll get there, op!

As I understand it, once you conceive it is the same risk as if you conceived without IVF - based on your age (or age of egg... e.g. if you are donor egg your miscarriage rate goes to that of a 23 yr old or whatever). That is unless you have something going on with your uterus?
