Where in DC area did you find your crib?????

having a minor panic about what type of crib to get and where to find one - my imagination doesn't extend much beyond babiesrus and buybuybaby. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, if you happen to have any actual crib recommendations, I'm all ears! TIA

Great Beginnings is wonderful. We went to all the usually mentioned stores in the area and no one had close to the variety. their sales staff is very knowledgeable and don't work on commission - our guy actually talked us into getting a cheaper crib!

I also went to Great Beginnings, which is a great place for furniture. I wound up getting the Natart Theo crib, the one that converts into a daybed then a full-sized bed. (If you do that, don't forget to simultaneously order the conversion hardware at the same time - just in case the company goes out of business or discontinues the model!) One thing I didn't realize was that it would take 10-14 weeks for the furniture to arrive - it's going to be a race to the finish to see which gets here first: the baby or the crib! If I had to do it over again, I'd make that purchase well ahead of time. Good luck!

Craigslist. Got a great crib, with matching dresser and changing table for $150. Now we've used the set for two kids. Do not let this stress you out and remember - the kid doesn't care where it sleeps. "The Nursery" is for mom and dad.

We have the crib and two other matching furniture from IKEA.

Agree on Craigslist- we were able to get much higher quality stuff than we could otherwise afford and it is still in near-perfect condititon.

i would've gone with craigslist but my mom & grandfather got together and helped me buy some new high-end nursery furniture at lullaby baby in columbia, and i would highly recommend checking them out. we got a steal on a really nice crib/dresser/hutch combo that was the floor model. and they were SO wonderful to work with.

Another vote for Great Beginnings. We live on Capitol Hill and it was well worth the trip to Gaithersburg to visit this store.

Bonus - they're having a sale right now on furniture. I think the deal is if you buy 3 pieces of furniture you get 25% off one piece.

We also bought the crib at Great Beginnings. It is definitely a higher-end store though, I think the cheapest crib there (1.5 years ago) was around $400.

I'll add our vote to the chorus of praise for Great Beginnings. Things may have changed, but we got our crib for under $400 about 3 years ago and there were definitely cheaper options there that we did not choose. One thing to know about GB is that their delivery fee comes with setup. This was well worth it! We almost drove home with our crib, which was in stock, and let them deliver the dresser when it arrived, but the saleslady explained to me that we'd be paying the $50 delivery fee for the dresser anyway and it would only be another $5 per additional item, plus they'd set everything up for us! Needless to say, we had everything delivered when the dresser arrived. (Keep in mind that prices may have changed a bit in the interim.)

Daisy Baby in Bethesda. They carry beautiful lines and are great if you need help pulling the whole nursery together.

I just went crib shopping and now just need to order everything. Here is a list of stores in the area that I worked from:
Also I would recommend the Baby Bargains book as it rates all the different brands.

Great Beginings - Gaithersburg http://www.greatbeginningsonline.com/
- has easily over 30 cribs. I think the cheapest is about $400. Love this place. Staff is very good and knowledgeable.

Buy Buy Baby in Springfield or Rockville www.buybuybaby.com
- Rockville had about 10-15 cribs, Springfield has much less. Prices from $300 and up

Bellini in Rockville http://www.bellini.com/ - I never made it there.

Pottery Barn Kids in White FLint http://www.potterybarnkids.com/ - I never made it there - only have 3 cribs on display due to holiday merchandise

Babies R Us in Falls CHurch or Silver Spring www.babiesrus.com
- Falls Church has about 20 cribs prices $300 and up.
- supposedly Silver Spring has over 30...

Burlington Coat Factory in Baileys Crossroads or Silver Spring www.babydepot.com
- did not like these cribs at all. The Baby Bargains book gave most of these brands lower ratings.

Baby to Teen in Manassas http://www.baby2teenfurniture.com/
- has a huge selection with same different stuff from Great Beginnings and the other places. Staff very good as well.

Wren & Diving in McLean http://www.wrenanddivine.com/ - did not go.
Lullaby Baby in Columbia http://www.lullaby-babycom.superpageshosting.com/lullabybabyhomepage/ - did not go.

Another cheer for Great Beginnings. We just bought a crib from their clearance section for $199.00, delivery is $75 and includes set up, $10 additional fee for each additional item delivered. There staff is incredibly generous with their time, very knowledgeable and will tell you the truth about quality, we too were warned against some high priced items such as strollers and advised to buy a more practical, higher quality product.
