Nice running routes in NYC (not sure if this is better for here or travel forum...)

Anonymous
I will be visiting NYC and will want to spend a few mornings on light jobs (maybe 3-5 miles). My hotel will be in the Battery Park area. Of course the first thing that comes to mind when I think of running in NYC is central park, however since my hotel is so far from there, that would be a long sweaty subway ride back, and as it would be early am on a weekday, I'm thinking the train will be crowded and my fellow passengers would not appreciate being squeezed next to me.

Any suggestions for nice running routes closer to the Battery Park area? Or even starting further away and running towards the area of my hotel, so that is the end route?

Any other tips for running in NYC? I live in the far out DC suburbs so I am not familiar with "city running"--generally I run on wooded trails or subdivision streets.

Thanks!

Go to mapmyrun.com, and do a search for runs between 3 and 5 miles near 10280. The internet is your friend.

From where you are, run to the Battery, then go counterclock-wise along the Battery, up the East side. Cut over whenever you want. Depends on how long you want. 5 miles would put you around the Manhattan Bridge/Williamsburg Bridge. Cut across westward. In the morning, it is a great run, and when cutting back to your hotel, the area changes about every 5 blocks.
