Best (good and not too expensive) New York City Restaurants???

Anonymous
Planning a trip to New York in August, and would love to nail down reservations in advance. We haven't even chosen a place to stay, but really just hoping to have a nice night out. Not looking for uber-fancy restaurant, and not a fan of seafood. I haven't been in many years and don't really know my way around.... Any suggestions????

haven't been there but heard that Carmine's is good, affordable Italian eatery http://www.carminesnyc.com/

Ew, seriously? There is a Carmine's in DC and it is disgusting. With the Italian presence in NYC, there have got to be options that are worlds different.

Hopefully this recommendation was a joke.

I had lunch at Bar Americain recently and it was really excellent. Also try Eataly, the Mario Batali place.

We were just in NYC for a week in June with our 4-year old who is an adventurous eater. These were our favorite places we ate:

The Green Table in Chelsea Market

Frank Restaurant in the East Village

Barn Joo in the Flatiron District

My son and I went to NYC several months ago to see STOMP in the East Village. After, we stopped here for dinner http://www.veselka.com/
I had found out about it by looking at Yelp and Tripadvisor.com reviews.

It was crowded, and we liked it a lot.
In the east village there were actually a lot of ethnic/sort of "dive" looking places that looked really good (and relatively inexpensive) so maybe check that out.

We will be going again and soon and I plan to try eating at Chelsea Market for a lunch or breakfast at some point.

Not sure what your idea of expensive is, but Quality Meats is an incredible steakhouse - not fancy but cool vibe and "upscale" - food is fantastic. Steakhouse prIces but it's Manhattan...
