Will EEO counseling really help?

Anonymous
I am the Fed emp asking about the EEO and the HR attorney. In reality, how effective are EEO counselors at putting a stop to abusive management practices? If the EEO officer is an agency employee, how much can they be trusted to effect real change?

You are missing the point. You MUST go to the EEO counselor. It is a requirement. If you do not go, you do not fulfill the requirements of an EEO claim and your claim will be dismissed.

I actually mean is there a way to keep my job and my sanity rather than just quit and sue or quit and move on?

I mean not "quit and sue" but "file, get denied, quit and sue."

They do achieve many settlements. Most claims settle.

I have seen many EEO mediations resolve quite amicably for both sides. In some situations, the disagreement is truly the result of miscommunication and some mistakes in judgment, not about REAL animus and *evil* behavior. I certainly think it is worth giving the process a shot. If the only other option you are considering is resigning, you have nothing to lose.

I found the EEO process useless.
