Who did a 5 day transfer?

Anonymous
We're shooting for a day 5 or 6 transfer and I am petrified that I'm going to get a call Monday morning that we don't have any blasts.

Started with 12 and the following is my 3 day report

2 haven't divided in 24 hours, possible arrests
1 - 8 cell, 1 - 7 cell, 6 - 6 cell, 1 - 5 cell and 1 4 cell

The nurse I talked to today said she would anticipate about 50% of the 6-8 cell embyros making it to blast

Also was hoping if anyone had any input on waiting it out to day 6?

A 6-day blast isn't as good as a 5-day blast, but it could still make a baby if it's a normal egg. Your numbers look good for getting a few blasts and having a 5-day transfer.

I started with 9 (at age 39) and had 3 blasts on day 5. one of the remaining 6 actually caught up and became a blast on day 6. so we transferred one and froze 3. that one took and became my daughter, so don't despair even if some (most) of your original batch don't make it to blast stage.

My two children resulted from transfers of day 6 and day 5 blasts, respectively. Remember: quality not quantity. Your numbers seem really good at this point. Good luck!

OP here, thanks for the reassurances. There isn't a day four embryo check at my clinic so I won't hear again until tomorrow morning which will probably be just before the scheduled 5 day transfer time. I think I've exhausted google at this point.

1st 5 day transfer of 1 embryo = my 19 mo old DD. Agree with PP that said quality not quantity! Best of luck to you!!!

OP here, I got pushed to day six. We have two blasts today of fair quality and four morula they want to wait on. Part of me thinks transferring the two fair blasts today would make more sense, but I don't think the embryologist really cares about my dr google opinion, lol. At least I know it will be tomorrow for sure.

Remember that it's not just the embryologist but also your RE consulting with them and taking into what he/she has seen over many years. They may feel some of the morulas, while a little slow, just look much better and then it's worth the wait.

Good luck tomorrow!!

OP here, having a hard time staying positive today. Ended up transferring one fair and two poor blasts. My RE straight out said it's an egg quality issue. I'm hoping against hope at this point as this is my last chance before moving on to donor egg.
