They wanted to, but unfortunately one of his daughters has an allergy.

They haven't gotten a dog yet. Fortunately, hypoallergenic breeds such as standard and miniature poodles and bichons frises are often available through rescue organizations or shelters.

Odd, with 2 children with asthma we asked the alergist about pets. She said an emphatic no to cats, a conditional yes to dogs but limited breeds. We choose a lab, because their oily coats inhibit the spread of dander (they shed tons though, just not with the dander). No problems, followed her advice never to allow on the furniture and to train to keep to living areas (no bedrooms).
