S/O -- nursery rug

Someone in the other nursery thread mentioned regretting buying an expensive rug. I'm so torn. We need a rug, so I'd like to get something we would want to reuse elsewhere-- so nothing babyish. I'd like something with natural fibers (jute, wool, cotton) that will still be soft. And I know it will need to be fairly cleanable in case of spit up, poop, etc.

What did you get? Where did you get it? How much was it? I'm willing to spend up to $1000 for a great rug, but maybe the answer is to get a few cheap throw rugs...thoughts?

I wanted something really soft that would hold up well and transition from a nursery into a more sophisticated room as my daughter grew up. We bought a chenille braided rug from LL Bean (I think it was $200) and I absolutely love it.

I bought a wool rug from Rugs USA (using a Groupon). It was very thick and dense with a relatively high pile, which is nice because we spend a lot of time standing on it while changing diapers, dressing the baby, etc.

I bought a $20 rug from Ikea...after poops, vomit, etc etc. I am glad I didn't spend any more money than that. However, we don't really hang out in the room that much beyond naptime and sleeping.

I bought a simple yellow Pottery Barn rug (100% wool) off of Craigslist. So glad, it was a couple hundred bucks and totally worth it.

I wouldn't put a nice rug in a nursey. If you have a "spitter" it will get so disgustingly caked. If you use formula it will stain, breastmilk will come out.

I bought a rug, then changed it out for a washable playmat when DC started crawling. Much better investment. Should have skipped the rug all together.

One word on pottery barn rugs....they shed. Like crazy. A year+ later, our rug still gets clumps of wool I have to vacuum up. Not something I'd want in a baby's room. Buying it used is, of course, different....but still.

I got a solid color rug at Ikea. It transitioned nicely into the big boy room, and when it gets destroyed I won't be too upset.

Whatever you get, make sure it is securely anchored (no slipping) and doesn't have trip-able edges. We just have the old beaten-up wall-to-wall berber-style carpeting in there that came with the house. It didn't get dirty at all in the baby phase, but has seen a poop and pee incident or two during the toddler phase. We plan to replace once DS is a bit older.
I got a big, reasonably-priced real wool rug at Ikea a while back. I'd check out that kind of non-synthetic but not too pricey option.

OP here - thanks for all the responses. Sounds like I need a reasonably priced, fairly washable, soft, neutral rug without trip-able edges.

Ikea unfortunately doesn't have much in stock right now that I like. I'll keep an eye out. If anyone has any more specific recs, would love to hear them.

Check out Dash and Albert. Great quality, and could definitely be used in other rooms in the house.
