| I threw out an idea at a meeting last week and the boss called it "trite." Everyone basically agreed that it was stupid and wouldn't let it go. It was so embarrassing. |

I saw something similar happen years ago at a large meeting and I never forgot it. The head of our division asked the group if there were any questions and a new employee asked something that was obvious to most in the room. The head of the division was ungracious and basically called it a stupid question. Here's the thing: I still remember it for HIS lack of grace (note: I remember nothing about the person who asked the question). I also remember taking note that that executive division head had, himself, done something incredibly stupid: by reacting badly, he ensured that he would miss out on future great ideas/insights/questions/comments from staff b/c they would all worry about being called stupid.
Let it go. It reflected poorly on the other guy not on you. |
That's a great story! Yes, I would look into other employment, but don't let it get you down. |
| Ugh. This incident says a lot more about the boss and his henchmen than about you. Sorry it happened. |

Unfortunately, these types of bosses are the decision makers. And we wonder why corporate America is such a mess and why corporate overseas is making a huge impact in the marketplace.
OP, class doesn't always reign at the top. What goes around, comes around. His day will come. It's called karma. |
| OP here. Thanks, everyone. Quitting my job is not an option right now, but it does feel good to get some validation. |
| Sorry about that OP. A good manager would never put down an employee in front of others. |

If anyone brings it up again, just say "You know, everyone has a bad idea every now and then. It's time to move on." then do that--move on. Just because they are acting sophmoric does not mean you should also do so, or cave in to high school theatrics. Be the grown up here and put it behind you. |
| Your boss is a tactless idiot. If someone asks you about tell them you've moved on and they should also. |

Yes, my supervisor gets anxious and then she attacks. We all know that it's her and not us and don't see it as something we deserve but it sure makes it hard to do my job right! |
