OP, thanks for posting this information. I would be nice if they posted the dates and times of the other meet/greets for County residents. Bowie is a haul for me after work, so I was wondering if they were going to have something closer to the Hyattsville side at a later date.

Is that you, Kiki? Will you report back on how you find it? I can't go until the Aug. 8th one, but I plan to do that one.

Hello,

Yes, it is me. I attended the M/G at Gholson Middle School. The event was held in the cafeteria with light refreshments and with a good turnout. The crowd seemed like a mix of teachers, principals, PGCSB employees, stakeholders, and parents.

Dr. Maxwell gave a short 5-10 minute speech and held the M/G for the remainder of the event. Each person got about 5 minutes with him with a PGCSB employee talking notes on the side. Great opportunity to get your voice/issues in front of Dr. Maxwell.

I plan to following up with him about our discussion and attending the boundary meetings on the elementary school behind Nicholas Orem. I also told him about the DCUM PG County Schools forum.

Please mention it to parents and Dr. Maxwell when you attend the next meeting.

Interesting - did you get any specifics on the meetings for boundaries on the Hyattsville Elementary school? I would be interested in attending those because I heard some chatter from some PTA folks in that neck of the woods about the possibility of a TAG center there, which would be a huge thing for my family since GWES is a very very long bus ride.

No, he did not mention any specifics. He was cautious when speaking when I mentioned the boundary meeting and how my community could affect the boundary decision. I would be interested in a TAG center as well as a strong language component, healthy lunch program with a garden, on-site aftercare, and the list goes on.

Did you like him in person? He looks like such a great choice on paper. I'm so hopeful that positive changes can really start happening in PGCPS with some of the Baker shakeup. I was skeptical about the takeover, but then the people selected to the board and then Dr. Maxwell all seem like really good picks. Maybe a shakeup was what was needed.

He is very personable.
