Pregnant on the BCP and freaking out

Anonymous
I have been on the Pill for many years and never had any issues with it. I have acne so it helps with that. My dermatologist prescribed an antibiotic for a few months to help with my acne. She said it is a myth that antibiotics decrease the effectiveness of the Pill. Well, I just got a positive pregnancy test yesterday and now I am freaking out. My DH were going to try for #2 next year. But what I am worried about is I was on the Pill and an antibiotic and generic Retin A and I am concerned that these might have somehow affected the baby. Obviously I stopped taking them all yesterday when I got the positive and I will call my doctor tomorrow but I can't stop thinking about it. Also, how can the doctor determine a due date if I have no idea when I ovulated? My last period was a period on the Pill.

Early ultrasounds are very good at predicating the due date. Perhaps, you might want to get a different doctor from the one who told that antibiotics do not decrease the effectiveness of the pill. Congrats!

I also got pregnant on the pill and was taking a medication not advised during pregnancy. My due date was calculated off the date of my last period because obviously I did ovulate. It was accurate. My child was born healthy and is now an active toddler. COngratulations!

I'd only be concerned about the retinA but you can discuss the risks with your OB. You can get a pretty accurate due date if you have an early ultrasound. If it makes you feel any better I was taking champix when I found out I was pregnant and baby is fine.
