coverletters for federal jobs

Do hiring officials look at coverletters at all for federal jobs? I've gotten two federal jobs without it, but am wondering if I it would help me get more call backs.

I doubt it; computer assembles cert list.....

It won't have much impact, if any, unless you have typos or grammatical errors and it somehow gets to a selecting official or panel, in which case it might hurt.

At my federal job, the cover letter is as important as the resume.

Curious what your job is. CFPB?

Anyways I've gotten a bunch of interviews and two offers without any cover letters. Hate writing them. But I have some in demand experience that I don't really need to spin.
