Is this the equivalent of eating a salad?

Anonymous
So I hate eating vegetables and salad in general. I know I need to eat vegetables for health reasons. I started mixing:
handful of baby spinach, long kale leaf, half a carrot, 2 broccoli pieces with 4 or so chunks of pineapple and a handfull of blueberries in the cuisinart food processor so it essentially purees into a thick soup. Then I have been eating the soup. I do not enjoy it but I find it doable versus eating a salad which disgusts me. So my question is what are the draw backs? will I still get all the fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, nutrients by processing the food into a puree then eating it? I am a healthy weight -- 5'7" and 135lbs. I eat lots of processed foods and carbohydrates... pasta, bread, cheese, chips etc. and I am trying to do this to get a bit healthier.

Why not eat cooked vegetables? Or actual soup?

Yes, that's totally fine. Glad you found something that works for you.

May I give you a tip? Try different raw nuts to see which ones you like. A handful of nuts is much healthier than a handful of chips, and you still get the hand-to-mouth action and a substantial (though not as loud) crunch like you do with chips.

I really think you ought to give a regular salad, fruit, or veggies a chance. I'm sorry but blending in all together like that just sounds awful and can't imagine it is more palatable.

fruit has too much sugar for losing weight

You don't have to eat salad. Surely there are vegetables out there that do not disgust you?

Now that is just idiotic.

Pureeing the veggies shouldn't take any nutrition away. Green smoothies are a big thing, and you are doing a variation on that.
Do you eat any cooked vegetables? Salad isn't a necessity.

What is it that you don't like about salad? You can skip the lettuce you know...

I just do not like the taste or texture of most veggies. I am not trying to lose weight so including pineapple does not bother me. I am just trying to get vitamins, frolic acid, iron etc from a source other than a pill.

OP, you're fine with the smoothies. The fiber content will remain and so Willie nutrients bust make sure there's nut son it or you're pairing with a meal with olive oil for absorption if fat soluble vitamins (a,d,e and k).

Short answer: Yes, pureeing preserves all the fiber and nutrients. You'd lose the fiber through juicing.

Op I do this too, I don't have time during the day to eat enough veggies, or just don't feel like it. I can eat them at dinner fine. I make a green smoothie for breakfast most days. There is no difference between eating them in a salad or blending them and drinking them.

How about a V8 or Bloody Mary?

OP said it is more palatable to her than a salad. This is not a helpful response.

I think it's fine OP!

Don't know if you like the texture of dried fruit any better, but apricots are high in iron. Legumes are also a good source for both.
