Where to buy lobster salad (not rolls)?

Anonymous
I'd like to "make" lobster rolls--by make, I mean buy pre-made lobster salad and put it in the rolls myself to serve at home. Live in NW DC--does Whole Foods carry? Wagshals? Maine Ave Fish Market? TIA!

I think if Whole Foods doesn't have it, it's the first sign of the apocalypse.

Just call and ask.

Buy cooked lobster, chop it up, add a little chopped celery, lemon juice and mayo and that's it. It's pretty easy to make and will probably taste fresher than anything pre-made. Lobster salad outside of New England tends to be a little heavy on filler and lobster parts like the spongy claw tips (which I throw away). If you have the time to cut up some lobster I suspect it will be 100% better than anything premade.

The Fish Market in CCDC (next to Blue 44)--it's not cheap, but the lobster will be very fresh. We did this last summer and told them that we wanted to make lobster rolls. They told us to come back in one hour--we did a little shopping and stopped by the Starbucks.

They will cook and chop the lobster meat for you by request. You take it home and mix the meat with a little bit of mayo, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and minced celery. Lightly toast potato rolls right before serving. So yummy.
