Apartments near Somerset Elementary or other nearby MoCo Elementaries?

We're looking for housing in MoCo that feeds into a good elementary and has very quick access to Tenleyown / AU area. We're not ready to buy and are now exploring apartment options. 2 little kids. It's not ideal, but we're exploring all of our options. Are there any decent options out there for apartment living with a family in Bethesda/Chevy Chase?

We're at Aldon of Chevy Chase, which is in bounds for Somerset and have been very happy. I pay about $1900 for a 2 bedroom. Pets allowed, but no washer/dryer in the actual building. Norwood park is right in my backyard, no streets to cross to get there.

If you have a little more money to spend, one of the little town houses in the condo development around us is currently for rent. It's at the corner of Chevy Chase Drive and Hillandale and has a for rent sign in the window. Or at least it did yesterday.

All of the apartment buildings on the Maryland side of the Friendship Heights neighborhood are zoned to Somerset, and are even quicker to Tenleytown then PP's suggestion, which is also a good one.

There are many apartment buildings in downtown Bethesda, which feed into Bethesda Elementary. E.g., Triangle Towers, The Middlebrooke.

I'm the Aldon PP, and I have friends and relatives who live here and in the apartments by Bethesda elementary. I'll say up front that most of these properties are nicer than Aldon, they have better amenities (concierges, swimming pools, etc . . . ) and frankly if I could afford them, I'd probably pick them too. It all really comes down to budget.

The basic Somerset catchment is Little Falls Pkwy on the West, south side of Bradley Blvd on the north boundary, Wisconsin Ave., and on the south, River Rd. and the MD side of the DC line. I think a few blks east of Wisconsin and south of CC Country Club are also in bounds for Somerset. You must check the address in the MCPS school locator on their website to be sure of the school zone.

This includes Bradley Blvd./Hillandale townhouses south of Little Falls and east of Little Falls Pkwy. Presently one on craigslist asking for $2500. Most of these are three bedrooms -- one master w/ bath, two smaller bedrooms (one of which is generally quite small/crib-only size).

There are tons of apartments in Friendship Heights, many of which are expensive, but offer promos like one month free, or whatever, so if you are planning only to stay a year while getting your sea legs, they might not be a bad deal.

There are also sometimes houses for rent in Somerset. Check craigslist or the MLS.
