Help! Preschool closed by the state of Virginia!

Anonymous
Hi moms (and dads),

So it's two months before the fall semester starts, and the preschool we chose has been closed by the state of Virginia because of violations! The state said it would take at least 60 days to reinspect the facility -- but only after the owner reapplies for the license. But the owner hasn't so far, and isn't responsive to inquiries.

We are really worried, and will probably have to look for another preschool this late in the game. Also, we paid a deposit to hold our spot at the school. How can we get the money back?

Thank you all in advance!

Your chosen preschool had so many violations that it was closed by the state and you'll "probably" have to find another school? WOW.

what preschool?

Op here. It's renaissance montessori in falls church. PP, we aren't sure if we can get into a preschool at this point, so we are thinking about a nanny option as well.

You can find a spot--just will be an afternoon spot. We looked late in the game (in McLean) and were able to find a few options

Are you looking for full time or part time?

Thanks! It will have to be full-time for us... Hoping to find a solution soon and get back the deposit, even though it was labeled "nonrefundable" on the application.

If you are looking for full time care you will need to go the daycare route. Do lots of tours and put yourself on all the waitlists. Good luck!

You could also do parttime preschool and nanny? Lots of parttime preschool spots.

You can check violations online on the VA website. This should help you screen centers before you visit them.

I'd get on wait lists immediately. There can be movement.

We had a bad experience with Renaissance Montessori last fall when they closed unexpectedly after being open for 1 month. The owner/director didn't respond to email or voicemail, but returned our deposit within a week with a letter of apology. Good luck!

Thanks 3:54! We got on a few waitlists. Fingers crossed... The owner isn't responding to our e-mail or calls, either, but given the serious violations she received, the state said it's unlikely it will open in September. Hopefully she will notify other parents about the school closure -- we found it out ourselves. Sorry you had to go through the same thing last year! Thanks again!

Check out Columbia baptist church in Falls Church. They have preschool and daycare options, and seemed organized when I toured.

Also in FC - St. Joseph's, Falls Church Episcopal Day School, and Kidstretch. I believe all have full day options.

Dulin is nice, Columbia Baptist, Brooksfield is Montesori in McLean not far from Falls Church with a very caring staff, Parenting Playgroups and St. Josephs are both in Falls Church.

Why don't you post on here a new listing with the title Renassance Montessori in Falls Church is Closed so others might find out with time to make changes as well?
